Riyadh Cables Group offers a comprehensive range of High Voltage (HV) and Extra High Voltage (EHV) cables, engineered to meet the rigorous demands of modern power transmission systems. Design and Construction

The HV & EHV cables are typically single-core and constructed with the following components:

  • Conductor: Copper (with aluminum as an optional alternative)

  • Conductor Screen: Semi-conducting thermosetting compound

  • Insulation: Cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE)

  • Insulation Screen: Semi-conducting thermosetting compound

  • Bedding Tape: Semi-conducting water swellable tape

  • Metallic Sheath: Copper wire screen and/or lead sheath

  • Longitudinal Moisture Barrier: Water swellable tape

  • Radial Moisture Barrier: Laminated aluminum tape

  • Outer Sheath: Extruded HDPE with graphite coating

This robust construction ensures durability, moisture resistance, and long-term operational reliability.

Performance and Testing

Riyadh Cables’ HV & EHV cables have undergone extensive type testing, including long-term performance evaluations conducted at both Riyadh Cables Laboratories and King Saud University. These tests have demonstrated that cables designed with an electrical stress of 13 kV/mm can operate effectively for over 30 years. Consequently, the cables are designed with stress levels of 8 kV/mm for High Voltage and 12 kV/mm for Extra High Voltage applications, providing a substantial safety margin.

They perform comprehensive calculations for current rating, induced voltage, and short circuit currents for both conductors and screens.
