Yanbu Cement Company: Pioneering Cement Production in Saudi Arabia’s Western Region
Yanbu Cement Company (YCC) is one of Saudi Arabia’s most established and largest cement manufacturers, playing a key role in the Kingdom’s construction and infrastructure sectors. Founded in 1977, YCC is a Saudi joint stock company and the leading cement producer in the Western Region, with an annual production capacity of over 7 million tons of clinker and a dispatch capacity exceeding 10 million tons of cement. The company ranks among the top 50 businesses in Saudi Arabia and has a paid-up capital of SR 1.575 billion.
Strategically positioned at Ras Baridi near the Red Sea, approximately 70 kilometers northwest of Yanbu Port, YCC’s plant operates with a commitment to quality and innovation. The company began its journey in 1979 by commissioning two long dry process kilns with a capacity of 1,500 tpd each, and a third kiln was added in 1982, reaching a production capacity of 1.28 million tons per year. These initial kilns were installed by KHD Humboldt Wedag AG, a German leader in industrial engineering.
In 1997, YCC undertook a major expansion by commissioning a 7,000 tpd kiln, later upgraded to 8,500 tpd in 2005, marking it as the largest kiln in the Middle East at that time. This expansion reflected YCC’s commitment to meeting the growing demands of Saudi Arabia’s booming construction industry. In 2011, a fifth kiln line was installed with a capacity of 10,000 tpd, supplied and erected by Sinoma International Engineering Co. Ltd., China. This further reinforced YCC’s reputation for operational efficiency and technological advancement.
YCC continued to refine its processes, implementing performance management strategies that optimized production on Kiln Lines 4 and 5, now producing 9,000 tpd and 12,000 tpd respectively. Yanbu Cement Company’s sustained growth and dedication to quality have made it a cornerstone of Saudi Arabia’s cement sector. With its state-of-the-art facilities and strategic vision, YCC stands ready to support the Kingdom’s ambitious infrastructure projects, bringing strength and resilience to each endeavor.
